Maraetai means “meeting place by the sea”- fitting for people who are looking for a meeting place to practice yoga, making time for yourself to reconnect with your breath and body. At Maraetai Yoga Studio we practice Iyengar Yoga which focusses on detail, precision and alignment in the performance of yoga poses and breath control. The style often makes use of props, such as belts, blocks and blankets which enable students to perform the asanas (poses) correctly, minimizing the risk of injury or strain. restorative & pranayama to deepen awareness

A deeply supported practice using props to quiet the nervous system, encourage passive opening, and promote recovery and renewal

backbends to release the upper back
Sunday 28th june 7:30-8:45am
75 minute class - a back bend sequence targeting tension and tightness through the upper back. All levels welcome.

Standing poses & Inversions with support
sunday 14th June 7:30-8:45am
75 minute class - Enhance alignment, coordination and balance in this supported standing pose and inversion sequence. You do not need to be confident with inversions.

end of term restorative & pranayama
sunday 5th july 7:30am-8:45am
End of term 2 will be a restorative session where we will explore the use of props to support and release the lower back.

international yoga day sequence

75 minute class - To celebrate international yoga day we will practice the traditional sequence designed by Geeta Iyengar. Buiilding strength, stability and stillness.

general integrated practice
