Maraetai means “meeting place by the sea”- fitting for people who are looking for a meeting place to practice yoga, making time for yourself to reconnect with your breath and body. At Maraetai Yoga Studio we practice Iyengar Yoga which focusses on detail, precision and alignment in the performance of yoga poses and breath control. The style often makes use of props, such as belts, blocks and blankets which enable students to perform the asanas (poses) correctly, minimizing the risk of injury or strain. standing poses & inversions

Inversions are an important and fun part of an Iyengar yoga practice. We will work through the stages of inversions as well as some standing poses to build the strength, stability and alignment.

general integrated practice

During this session we will focus on a mix of asana from across the range of standing poses, forward bends, backbends and twists as well as continuing to build on stability in our inversions.
