In December 2024, my friend and fellow yoga teacher Vanessa, her husband Phil and myself went to RIMYI for the first time. Our wonderful and long time yoga teacher, Melodie Batchelor agreed to come with us and show us the ropes in what can be quite an overwhelming experience.
I had wanted to visit RIMYI since I first started my teacher training (for the first time) in 2010. However, life had other plans and it wasn’t until 14 years later that I made the trip. I do think however, that things work out as they should, as even after over 15 years of practicing Iyengar yoga, the way classes are taught in Pune are at such a deeper level, those years of practice were so necessary to understand the lessons being taught. After 3 weeks in Pune, I left feeling refreshed, inspired and excited to get back into my yoga in New Zealand and also very much looking forward to my next visit to RIMYI in the near future.
Inspired by Tamara Hockey in the UK (yoga-glos.co.uk), I have decided to share the notes that we took after our classes in RIMYI, so that others might find them useful in their own practice.
