Classes at Maraetai Yoga Studio
We offer a range of classes to suit your needs and daily schedule. All classes are held in our boutique studio with a limit of 10 students in each class. We run term block courses, which enables us to progress through the term as a group, building our knowledge and practice each week.
Iyengar yoga is alignment based, meaning we focus on doing poses with correct alignment so that we can avoid undue stress on our joints and spine and to avoid any injury. To achieve alignment, we often make use of props, such as belts, blocks, bolsters and blankets. All props are provided and you will be given individualised instruction as to what props you may or may not need.

about our classes
Early birds classes
Start your day with clarity and vitality in our Early Bird Yoga sessions, eld every Thursday morning 6:00am – 7:00am, during the school term. These classes are offered as a term block course, encouraging a sense of commitment and continuity. By attending regularly, students can gradually build strength, flexibility, and confidence in their practice week by week. This early morning class is a beautiful way to energise your body and centre your mind before the hustle of the day begins.
general evening classes
End your day with a grounding and revitalising yoga practice in our 90-minute General Yoga class, held every Tuesday evening 6:30-8:00pm, during the school term. This class is offered as a term block course, designed to support your ongoing development and encourage a consistent weekly practice. Each term follows a structured sequence inspired by the RIMYI Institute in Pune, India – progressing through standing poses, forward bends and twists, backbends and restorative postures over a four-week cycle. Classes are open to all levels, from complete beginners to experienced practitioners. Your teacher, Inger-Lisa, is a Level 2 certified Iyengar yoga instructor who offers skilled guidance and personalised adaptions to suit individual abilities and limitations. Whether you’re building the foundations of your practice or working towards more advanced asana and inversions, this class provides a supportive environment to explore and grow.
Private Sessions – yoga as therapy
Yoga as Therapy is a personalised three-session programme designed to support you wherever you are in your yoga journey – whether you’re working through injury or chronic illness, looking to deepen your existing practice, or beginning yoga for the first time and not yet ready to join a group class. Guided by Inger-Lisa, this programme draws on the therapeutic principles and holistic sequences of B.K.S Iyengar, offering intelligent and compassionate support tailored to your individual needs. The three sessions are structured as follows: Session One – A full assessment to understand your physical condition, health history and personal goals. From this, we establish a clear intention and direction for your practice. Sessions Two & Three – Inger-Lisa will guide you through your customised sequence, offering clear instructions, hands-on adjustments, and personalised modifications. These sessions focus on deepening understanding, refining technique, and ensuring the sequence is safely adapted for your body and situation. After completing the three-part programme, ongoing one-on-one private sessions are available for those who wish to contiue with individualised guidance and progression.
